September updates
You, the kind reader, may notice that I have said very little lately. This current status results from various changes that have rendered me with very little extra time. As things calm down, one may hope that this will correct itself. So, for the curious, here are the updates:
Immuanel United Church of Christ, Bartlett: I played my last Sunday morning on September 3. They congregation sang very well, it was a joyous musical offering and probably the best musical experience I had with them. What a way to end. For the prelude I played Johannes Brahms "O welt ich muss die lassen," (O world I must leave thee, which is a hymn derived from "Innsbruck I must leave thee.") The postlude was J.S. Bach - "Little" Fugue in g minor, BWV 578 and they stayed to listen. The silence during the postlude was a little distracting. I am used no one listening.
On top of the preparations for the final Sunday, on Saturday, September 2, I had a funeral to play. Tomorrow, 9/10/06, I have a wedding to play in the afternoon.
St. Lawrence Episcopal, Libertyville: I did play a funeral at the end of August. I began rehearsing with the choir on August 31 and will play my first Sunday, tomorrow, 9/10/06. To those who noticed, yes that means, 2 Eucharists Sunday morning and then a drive to Bartlett for a wedding in the afternoon. I am also in the midst of a few extra meetings here and continous planning. The choir is off to a good start and the recently donated Baldwin organ is sounding better than I had expected, actually, one of the better sounded electronic instruments I have heard. It will be a useful temporary instrument (temporary, in church terms, meaning anywhere from 6 years to the rapture).
New Day job: August 31 (yes the day of my first rehearsal with St. Lawrence), I began working for the Temporary Staffing Center at Northwestern University. Right now, this consists of 7.5 hours a day on a special project at Human Resources (HR) sitting in front of computer. I suspect this will go on at least one more week if not two and then hopefull a new placement.
Seabury: Amongst the various other happenings, I am trying to wrap up the audio-visual area for a new A/V tech and supervisor (caused by the musical offices game currently being played at Seabury). I hope to end soon with the finalization of the current inventory, new procedure manual, new request form, and installing a new projector.
From underemployed to overempoloyed... oops... Pray for help and strength in finding a job to help continue your vocation and then God gives in abundance. Thank you, but... ah well, I do enjoy being busy.
And so, I walk outside this morning and find that somebody backed into the front of my truck, breaking the license bracket (this being the only damage luckily). I attempted to find something for a temporary fix, and, unsuprisingly, the items I needed were missing. Figures. Then I went online to find the nearest Ford dealer and the Ford parts and dealers webiste is down. Aargh. I finally did find a dealer, called them, and they can help replace the cheap plastic rivits today. Pray for no police tickets on the way to there, though I will have the plate along with bracket and broken rivits.
Well, enough for now. Back to work.
